Midsummer Garden Party - Sunday 19 June 2011
Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Friends of the Porter's GardenThe party was held inside - in the conference room of Boathouse No 6 - because of a chill wind and threatening rain.
Dr Ann Coats, coordinator the Friends of the Porter's Garden, welcomes everyone, thanks the Friends for their hard work during the year, announces an appeal for funds for a sculpture to represent the work of the dockyard, and introduces the Deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas.
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas, opens the garden party. The Deputy Lord Mayor recounted the history of the recreation of the Porter's Garden. He remarked that when he was an apprentice in the dockyard the garden had been a car park and that today was the first time that he had seen it in all its glory.
